Shortcut to Perfect Wavy Hair?
![]() A few weeks ago, I heard about something miraculous. A hairdryer that will take my hair and turn it into Serena van der Woodsen's perfect waves. Now, you could sell me a goat with clipping shears in its mouth if you told me said goat would make my hair look like hers. It's so wavy and perfect and long! And shiny- did I mention shiny? I typed as fast as my poor little fingers could to drugstore.com, and ordered the Remington Emi Hairdryer. Hair GoddessIn my heart, I realized this was a long shot- I have extremely curly hair that's relaxed and ethnic. As far from my goal hairdo as I could possibly get. But what life is worth living without dreams? I had to try. The instructions say to take 1" sections of towel dried hair, insert into the crazy attachment and when your hair is dry, gently pull the sections apart and you will magically turn into an Upper East Side princess. Or something like that. I went in with soaking wet hair and gel because my hair gets curlier as it dries and I wanted it as straight as possible before trying to coax it into waves. The dryer itself is good. It only took about 40 minutes to dry my entire head. When I finished drying, my hair looked like the picture below: ![]() Looks a lot like dreads, right? Can you tell I'm thinking "oh crap. this ain't going to work at all?" I started gingerly pulling the dreads apart to find my magical waves. Well, um, results are below. ![]() You Tarzan, Me Jane with split end. It looks like I didn't separate the dreads enough in these pictures, but the more I separated them, the frizzier they got. It just didn't work for me. But, I am not panning this product for everyone. It seems to work pretty well on straight hair, based on reviews from fashionism.org. But if your hair is very curly or ethnic, you are out of luck. Sigh. Back to my hairdryer, flat iron, curling iron, and picture of Serena taped to my bathroom mirror. Comments: hey! at least you tried! i find my hair only wants to have things its own way...so i just let it go :) Comments: hmm, maybe if you tried larger sections into the dryer instead of smaller ones it would work..?! Comments: Hmm interesting! Last summer I tried a wavy perm (results seen here) for the first time and spent the rest of the summer blow-drying my roots and working leave-in conditioner into my hair and letting it air-dry, which took about 10 minutes in the morning. I think I prefer my lazy method to messing around for 40 minutes with a hairdryer. ;-) Comments: This is why I could never have long hair! I'm far too lazy to spend 40 mins blowdrying... I'm lucky if I brush mine... Comments: this an awesome post, you're a really intriguing writer. i'm definitely looking forward to read more. =] Comments: I wonder if it would work well on my board straight hair, i really need some waves for summer. i would love to try it. Comments: Thanks for the feedback Mandi, I am going to try it again with bigger sections and also on previously straightened hair. I'll make sure to post about it! Comments: Aw =/ I've given up on blowdrying my hair, actually! For the past few days I've been avoiding straightening my hair (oh, lazy me) and leaving it au naturel. Some days it looks decent, others, not so lovely ;] Comments: try twisting larger sections, maybe? now i'm interested in this dryer. haha btw, this site helped me w/my hair so much. the forum is chock full of really useful advice. Comments: I like your twisty waves -- it's not exactly the same as Blake, but it's got its own cool thing and it looks pretty on you --whereas on me, it would look like something else! Comments: I actually like the way it looks, they look like cute and delicate locks :) Comments: I have added you blog to my blog roll :) Comments: Oh so cute! I have been seeing you in the IFB Forums, will add you to my google reader. :-) Comments: This blow dryer is intriguing-- and it's the first I've heard of it! I'm tempted to pick one up and give it a try... gotta be cheaper than a perm, right?! Comments: Najeema! How did I not know you were blogging? Adding you to the roll, right now! Also, great review of the dryer! I actually think the result is really cool! Comments: I do agree with everyone else; it looks quite unique! Comments: Great feedback! I find it rather difficult to follow some of the instructions these products have--they're so sure it would work, however... Comments: thanks so much for posting this, really interesting to see someone who has actually tried it! cool blog! <3 xx Comments: I love her hair! :) Comments: P.S. That's hilarious. Sorry it didn't work! My hair will never do anything I tell it to, so I've basically given up :) Comments: Very very interesting article. I like it too much. Some good hair style i have seen here as well. Google: good dryer blow drying hair Shortcut to Perfect Wavy Hair? good blow dryer |
